The park is divided into five blocks, with Block 1 being the most popular and accessible. For a less crowded experience, Block 5 offers equally rewarding wildlife encounters with fewer vehicles on the trail. Morning safaris starting at 5:30 AM are recommended, as the cool dawn hours bring the most animal activity.

To make the most of your Yala safari, book a knowledgeable local guide who understands animal behaviour and can track leopard movements. Bring binoculars, a camera with a telephoto lens, sun protection, and plenty of water. Respect the park rules: maintain a safe distance from wildlife, stay in your vehicle, and keep noise to a minimum. Consider spending two consecutive mornings in the park, as wildlife sightings are never guaranteed but probability increases with time spent.
